color: #000000;\">She is a big soft woman<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400; color: #000000;\">a curled fetal ball.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 60px;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400; color: #000000;\">They swarm her like ants.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400; color: #000000;\">Assault her; bombs, pile drivers,<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400; color: #000000;\">endless marching foot steps.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400; color: #000000;\">Strew her skin with trash.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400; color: #000000;\">Piles of nothing alive.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400; color: #000000;\">Gray dust cakes nostrils,<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400; color: #000000;\">A trickle of blood<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400; color: #000000;\">stripes her chin.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 60px;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400; color: #000000;\">A big anonymous woman<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400; color: #000000;\">forgotten by the entitled masses\u00a0<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400; color: #000000;\">who wrangle and tromp<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400; color: #000000;\">all her secret places.\u00a0<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400; color: #000000;\">Digging, gouging, drilling<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400; color: #000000;\">pipelines to suck her blood.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 60px;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400; color: #000000;\">Sometimes she wakes from\u00a0<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400; color: #000000;\">the nightmares she wanders:<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400; color: #000000;\">Rolls her arm-earthquake shatters a city.\u00a0<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400; color: #000000;\">Blinks a tsunami-washes away thousands.\u00a0<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400; color: #000000;\">Her heart beats-volcano blows,\u00a0<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400; color: #000000;\">slashes of lava pulse away civilizations..<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400; color: #000000;\">She melts ice caps, raises waters, pulls her land back.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400; color: #000000;\">Her fury, her voice the sound of hurricanes shrieking.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 60px;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400; color: #000000;\">Some say she is off her axis.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400; color: #000000;\">Some say she is crazy.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 60px;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400; color: #000000;\">Crazy with grief, ancient heart aches for humans who steal\u00a0<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400; color: #000000;\">life from countless beloveds; her centipedes, honey bees, her elephants, rare orchids,<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400; color: #000000;\">sightless worms that linger by hot springs in ocean depths.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 60px;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400; color: #000000;\">With immune responses evolved when she was nothing but\u00a0<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400; color: #000000;\">a star&#8217;s dream, she urges them to genocide and war, anything to rid\u00a0<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400; color: #000000;\">the human plague that consumes her body until nothing will remains but<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400; color: #000000;\">bones of stone that flash past the sun.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 60px;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400; color: #000000;\">(They can never plunder<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400; color: #000000;\">the sun, though they plot<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400; color: #000000;\">to send tourists to the moon<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400; color: #000000;\">and other far cold places.)<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 60px;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400; color: #000000;\">She curls up again, exhaustion takes her.\u00a0<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400; color: #000000;\">She sleeps again, prays for no dreams,<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400; color: #000000;\">too soft to face their sharp<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400; color: #000000;\">edges any more<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400; color: #000000;\">for today.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h5>Mother Earth was inspired by a painting a friend gifted me. I met the actual artist at a gallery event years later.
