It is a prompt response to the Christmas classic &#8220;Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas&#8221; by Judy Garland in the movie &#8220;Meet Me in St. Louis&#8221; a sad Christmas movie about World War II. A hope that the following Christmas will be better than the current year (a year filled with families being forced apart by the war)<br \/>\nThis was a prompt using by Daily Wisdom Words by wonderful poet Abuh Monday Eneojo.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 80px;\">The War is Like Honey In Holiday Lights:<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 80px;\">In this Christmas,<br \/>\nwe are in these smoking lights.<br \/>\nIn our poverty,<br \/>\nIn our never-ending wars.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 80px;\">Like every Christmas it seems,<br \/>\nEver since I became a young man &#8211;<br \/>\nthey forced me into these hate battles<br \/>\nFighting &#8220;enemies&#8221; whose faces &#8211;<br \/>\nAre in family photos<br \/>\nJust like mine.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 80px;\">The government has tried to white-out my mind.<br \/>\nMany years ago,<br \/>\nblank me out,<br \/>\na dot to be eaten by the machine.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 80px;\">Replaced me into the sticky,<br \/>\nfill in the wounds with the honey,<br \/>\nin stitches.<br \/>\nCohesive, bare boned and breathing in last heartbeats.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 80px;\">There are the memories<br \/>\nPretty voices humming<br \/>\nIn hope,<br \/>\nI pray to a sky<br \/>\nThat cannot fathom all the angels.<br \/>\nThe angels,<br \/>\nThat supposed to be cradling us all.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 80px;\">As these nightmares burn in our skin,<br \/>\nlayer me in towers upon towers of fears.<br \/>\nI try to imagine,<br \/>\na boyhood love of bells ringing,<br \/>\ninstead of missile sirens purging the purity from the air.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 80px;\">I will always have my mother&#8217;s voice.<br \/>\nShe will sing to me from the haunts.<br \/>\nSing to me,<br \/>\nin hope &#8211;<br \/>\nas more of my brother&#8217;s fall.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 80px;\">I cradle in this sticky dirt,<br \/>\nin my cuts.<br \/>\nAnd hold it up,<br \/>\nSo my angels can cradle me.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h6 style=\"text-align: right;\">Photo by Museums Victoria on Unsplash<\/h6>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>This poem I wrote on Tuesday December 12th, 2019.
