I remember when the<\/span>
\nER doctor came into my<\/span>
\nhospital room,<\/span>
\nI remember him distinctly,<\/span>
\nbecause he made it clear<\/span>
\nthat I was an inconvenience.<\/span>
\n\u201cWe can call the SANE nurse\u201d,<\/span>
\nhe said, \u201cbut<\/span>
\nshe won\u2019t be here for hours.\u201d<\/span>
\nHis eyes,<\/span>
\nhis tone,<\/span>
\nasked me to just leave,<\/span>
\nasked me to just give up,<\/span>
\nasked me to not be a further burden.<\/span>
\nMy rape, his burden,<\/span>
\nclearly.<\/span>
\nMy shock, my pain,<\/span>
\ntoo messy for him.<\/span>
\nHow dare I.<\/span>
\nClearly, I should just<\/span>
\nput on the red robe,<\/span>
\nbe glad that a man<\/span>
\ndeemed a fat virgin fuckable –<\/span>
\nit does not matter if she didn\u2019t want it.<\/span>
\nCan\u2019t you just<\/span>
\nsmile?<\/span>
\nCan\u2019t you just<\/span>
\nrelax? It wasn\u2019t that<\/span>
\nserious.<\/span>
\nWhen I open my mouth<\/span>
\nit will not be a<\/span>
\nsmile, sir, that<\/span>
\nis the baring of teeth.<\/span>
\nTo the next man to touch me without permission,<\/span>
\nlet it be known…<\/span>
\nit is not that kind of<\/span>
\nbutterfly<\/span>
\nI will be putting in your stomach.<\/span>
\nTo the next man to touch policy,<\/span>
\nlet it be known…<\/span>
\nI am not the only kind of woman<\/span>
\nwho needs Roe vs Wade.<\/span>
\nForced motherhood is not<\/span>
\nfruit to be considered a blessing.<\/span>
\nWe are coming for you.<\/span>
\nThe whole pack, rising<\/span>
\nlike wolves,<\/span>
\nbaring teeth, such a pretty<\/span>
\nsight.<\/span><\/p>\n

Author’s note<\/strong>: One thing that I often think about is how we as a society treat and talk about sex and sexuality. There are many systemic issues revolving around this, from rape culture, to the toxic idea of the \u201cfriend zone\u201d, etc. But, one issue I never considered before was the baseball metaphors often used for sex, and how they can contribute to unhealthy views. I found the following TED talk<\/a> to be very interesting.<\/p>\n

The \u201cbaseball model is incredibly problematic. It\u2019s sexist. It\u2019s heterosexist. It\u2019s competitive. It\u2019s goal-directed. And it can\u2019t result in healthy sexuality developing in young people or in adults. So we need a new model. I\u2019m here today to offer you that new model. And it\u2019s based on pizza\u201d<\/p>\n
